It's generally best to avoid combining Lexapro and alcohol. Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects, such as drowsiness and impair your thinking or reactions. You might be best to find out how you react to alcohol in a more secure environment first. The odd drink every now and then is probably.
Had a 24 oz beer and was fine, I only take 10mg lexqpro. Thank you for the info.
Did lexapro ever help you??
I used to take lexapro for years and drank regularly and sometimes (at festivals) quite alot, never had any bad effects other than the hangovers and i suppose mood, but i never knew about all these possible effects of these interactions, but i suppose poeple are different, i also was a heavier weight then too, i also have know idea what shape my liver & kidneys are in, after reading this i maybe get that checked, but i would doubt a 2-3 bottles of beer would be more than your body could handle, but thats just an opinion.
Im just actually wondering if anyone is prescribed lexapro and also drinks along with it.

I lost my sister in law to liver failure because of a "few" beers mixed with percocets that also contain tylenol which is proven to be bad on the liver. My, my, why ask if you already know it all.
To avoid dangerous side effects such as drowsiness and liver problems, it's best not to use alcohol while you take Lexapro. Alcohol may also keep Lexapro from working as well as it should. With or without a drug, alcohol may aggravate your symptoms of anxiety and depression.
SSRI drugs are among the safest classes of antidepressants, so they’re often doctors’ first choice for treating depression. Like other SSRIs, Lexapro affects your brain by blocking the reuptake of serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter known for its effects on mood.

Because alcohol can make your depression worse, it can also lead to increased suicide risk. This risk is especially high in children, teens, and young adults.
For some, drinking alcohol is a regular part of life. While alcohol in itself is not bad when used in moderation, even moderate use of it can interact with certain drugs, and this is the case with Xanax. Here is some information on why Xanax and alcohol should not be mixed. Please take this warning seriously. One of the most.

So, if I go out, I do not take Xanax; after all, I no longer want to die :) However, I recently read my bottle of Lexapro, and noticed that there is a warning label stating "DO NOT DRINK WHILE ON THIS MEDICATION". It didn't say "this medication may intensify the effect of alcohol.." It said "DO NOT DRINK.

So, if I go out, I do not take Xanax; after all, I no longer want to die :). Now I know that I cannot drink on Xanax (which I take, 4 mgs per day).
Although the title seems as if I am being sarcastic and not serious, I am very serious.
Do any of you experts know why this is? What is different about Lexapro? Why can't I socially drink while on this med?

Before I got help for all of my issues, my weekends were filled with over-exercising, starving, calorie counting, binging, purging, cutting, severe depression. You get the picture. ect.

It has been about a year since I got help, went inpatient, and got medicated. Since then, I have been able to go out, meet other people my age, and have had many invitations to go have a drink after work, to go and maybe have 'several' drinks on a Friday night. Again, you get the picture.
I am a fairly young person (25) and most of my friends enjoy going out for a few drinks and some dancing on the weekends.
Moreover, what if I do ??? I know that it would be, at the very least, ill advised, but what are some of the effects, side effects, ect that can be expected if I were to drink on Lexapro? HELP! Thanks :).
