Both meds are almost the same, why did the doc prescribe Klonopin? Perhaps please do discuss it with your doc., if you feel its uncomfortable taking a new med.

They are the same in the type of drug class they're in called benzodiazepines.Only Xanax is more of a short acting benzo, whereas klonipine is more of a longer acting benzo..Hope that pretty much wanders your question.

I told her that i was uncomfortable with a new med but nothing was changed. ty for your help :). my doc says its habit forming and switched me even though im not hooked on them nor do I have a reputation for drug abuse. it sounds like klonopin might be better for me to take anyway.
Like i jus enjoy visits to the ER, LOL. They dont understand what its like at all!!! The reason i was commenting was because i noticed you said you "use to experience panic attacks", how did u get them to stop happening??? I have been having them for about 8 or 9 years, sometimes when i think they are gone months later i have another one. that i dont feel right and them actin like i'm fine. It's so nice to hear someone else talk about panic attacks and understand what a horrible experience it is. People think i am just crazy and i jus need to "not think about it". Sometimes when i feel one coming on i can take a klonopin and it will go away, but sometimes i end up in the er trying to explain to a Dr.

Klonopin has less troublesome side effects than Xanax according to the clinical studies. Both Xanax and Klonopin are benxodiazepines that are prescribed for anxiety and panic attacks. They have similar action time, and Klonopin stays in the body a while longer than Xanax. Might be why the doctor is switching you.
and asked to be tapered off. Klonopin is not simply habit-forming, it is HIGHLY PHYSICALLY ADDICTIVE! Most docs will not prescribe it for longer than a week. I was on Klonopin for 6 months. Ask your doc about Buspar. It is not addictive and works WELL! Hey Reenah. This was done very slowly. It was a VERY painful process (physically) All benzodizepines are addictive.
I'm used to taking Xanax for my panic attacks and was recently switched to Klonopin. I'm very scared to try it because I don't like the side effects that i get from meds. Are they pretty much the same?. Every time I try something new I have panic attacks and think I'm having a bad reaction.
Now I'm prescribed Klonopin and I don't feel the same effects that I did from xanax. I'm currently taking 0.5 mg so maybe my Dr needs to up my dosage. I've taken Xanax over the years for anxiety and I actually loved it for how it helped the anxiety go away almost instantly.

I am on klonopin and prefer it over xanax for it works for many more hrs then the xanax does. hello Reenah, Xanax and Klonopin are both in the same family called benzodiazapene, although xanax kicks in quicker it doesn't stay in your body as long as klonopin, klonopin takes a little longer to kick in but is active in your system longer. hope this helps.
Take care, be well!
Klonopin lasts longer - it is the choice for sleep disorders because it last for 8 hrs and doesn't make you sleepy during the day.
thank you Laurie :).

This question has also been asked and answered here: Klonopin vs Xanax - How are they different?
I don't think you have anything to worry about with this Klonopin is also related to Xanax it is also a Benzodiazepine drug and it works in a very similar way to Xanax, it is indicated for panic attacks and also for people who have seizures, its simply going to do pretty much what the xanax would do, I understand your fears I use to experience panic attacks and for anyone who has never experienced this words are inadequate to express what a horrible experience it is to have and to live through something like this, take care.
Welcome, yes these meds are habit forming, I am hooked on to alprazolam since the last 3 years now, well take care & follow your docs advice, be well & safe!
